Please Join us for MAAPPNs annual Psychiatric Advanced Practice Nursing Conference, where we’ll explore the latest innovations, integration strategies, and impactful changes shaping psychiatric care today. This year’s conference will feature timely and relevant topics including the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in psychiatric practice, clinical applications of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), and the evolving political and economic changes impacting state mental health funding. We’ll also offer practical sessions on incorporating psychotherapy into advanced nursing practice, as well as a focused presentation on mastering documentation for billing compliance—specifically addressing strategies for streamlining psychiatric notes and effectively documenting add-on psychotherapy. Designed for psychiatric advanced practice nurses, the conference will combine expert-led presentations with interactive discussions to support your work in a rapidly changing mental health landscape.

8:30 AM – 9:30AM: Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS): A Transformative Interventional Option, Brian S. Banks, MSN, BSN, PMHNP-BC. This session will explore the growing role of TMS as a safe, effective, and evidence-based alternative to traditional pharmacological treatments. Discussion will focus on the mechanism of action, outcomes, durability, and potential future applications of TMS. Attendees will leave equipped to better counsel patients, advocate for advanced treatments, and consider how TMS could be a holistic option for their non-responders as well as a suitable first-line intervention.

9:30 -10:30 AM: Practical Application of AI in Outpatient Psychiatry – Maria Grotz, MS, NP This session explores real-world applications of artificial intelligence in outpatient psychiatric practice, focusing on how AI tools can enhance clinical efficiency, support diagnostic decision-making, and personalize treatment planning. Through a live demo, attendees will see AI in action. Practical strategies for integrating AI into daily practice while maintaining ethical and patient centered care will also be discussed.

11:00 AM – 12:00PM: Navigating Uncertainty: The Future of MassHealth, Medicaid Cuts, and Behavioral Health Access in Massachusetts -Dr. Lee Robinson, Sr Director of Behavioral Health Policy for MassHealth This session explores the impact of Medicaid cuts and shifting federal funding on MassHealth and behavioral health access in Massachusetts. It offers insights into policy responses, emerging challenges, and strategies to safeguard mental health care for vulnerable populations.

This session will explore the essential documentation guidelines required to meet billing compliance. Real-world examples will illustrate common documentation pitfalls and best practices of how to address time-based billing, psychotherapy add-on codes. Practical tools and templates will be shared to support patient, compliant documentation workflows.
